Cats. There’s just something a bit…evil about them. Maybe it’s the way they stare at you or their holier-than-thou attitude but felines have always been a bit freaky (unless you’re a cat person, that is). As it turns out, cats aren’t just cold and unfeeling – they can also be used to kill people.
The death of a Chinese billionaire has police questioning if the man’s death was down to a murder plot which involved cat meat. Yes, you read that right: cat meat.
The Guardian reports that Long Liyuan, 49, died after sharing some slow-boiled cat meat stew during a business lunch in Guangdong, Southern China. A connoisseur of cat meat, Long regularly ordered the same dish without any problems.
Long shared the cat meat stew with two other men who were there to discuss a business contract with him. He then apparently ate more than the other two, quickly fell ill and was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
One of the men, Huang Guang, was arrested by police on suspicion of poisoning the stew with a toxic herb. The police revealed that Huang and Long had economic disputes between them.
“He went several times to eat cat meat in the past. On each occasion, the cat was freshly killed before being put in the pot. He never had any food poisoning problems before. It must have been murder,” a relative told a local newspaper.
The purrfect crime? Not likely.
